“Drano” for a Clogged up mind

If you have ever had a day (or a season) when it was super hard to hear from God? You are not alone! The Bible is filled with ways we can clear up those things that are clogging up our minds and keeping us from hearing God. The Bible is living and active and just for illustration sake, It’s kinda like “Liquid Drano” for the mind. :o)

Often times our minds filled to overflowing with frustrations and the impossibles of life. God is wanting to address certain areas in our lives, but He cannot because our minds are all clogged up. We have a worldly mindset about life’s situations that speak loud overruling what God may want to say.

Listen to these Scriptures:

1 Corinthians 3-5 – Passage Lookup – New International Version, ©2010 – BibleGateway.com
Brothers and sisters, I could not address you as people who live by the Spirit but as people who are still worldly—mere infants in Christ. 2 I gave you milk, not solid food, for you were not yet ready for it. Indeed, you are still not ready. 3 You are still worldly. For since there is jealousy and quarreling among you, are you not worldly? Are you not acting like mere humans?

Romans 8:5-8 (New International Version, ©2011)

5 Those who live according to the flesh have their minds set on what the flesh desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires. 6 The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace. 7 The mind governed by the flesh is hostile to God; it does not submit to God’s law, nor can it do so. 8 Those who are in the realm of the flesh cannot please God.

One reason we can’t hear God:    “We do not live by the Spirit.”
We think the same way as the world! We respond to situations the same way.. with frustration, jealousy and arguing.  Our minds are still “conformed to the pattern of the world, and not transformed by the Holy Spirit.”

A good way to tell if we are growing in God, is how we react to situations.

The truth is when stuff gets crazy we all immediately feel like reacting with sadness, anger, irritation ect. But we have been empowered by the Holy Spirit and guess what if we just stop and ask we can get a God perspective on things. Every single day we get to make a choice: grit our teeth and deal with life as it comes  or surrender to God, his timing, seasons, and wisdom. Its an everyday test to walk in the Spirit  and let the “Drano” effect wash way away the worlds way of doing things…. A Godly attitude on: piles of laundry, dishes, bathroom cleaning, homework, children’s disputes ect…. sweet! right?

As a “maturing” christian we must be people who live by the Spirit of God, Who have our minds on things that are good, and helpful for building others up. Living in the Spirit is depending on Him to unclog the negative patterns in our minds! This is one of the greatest things that set us apart from the unsaved… simply having our thoughts, words and actions line up with God, The word, and the inner witness of the Holy Spirit in us.

How to live by the Spirit:

  1. Ask for Help….Pray in the Spirit! Pray in tongues which lets u pray God’s perfect will for the situation, bypassing your own will.
  2. Take time to listen to and obey the voice of God‘s Spirit.
  3. Spend time in the Bible so we will be able to rightly divide between what is God’s Spirit speaking to our hearts and what is a worldly perspective.
  4. Get involved and planted in a local church. God is using his church to do powerful signs and wonders in the earth. iI one can person alone is powerful by the Holy Spirit, just imagine the mighty force we become when we join together to accomplish God’s will in the earth!
  5. Turn off the world’s perspective for a season. We might just be clogged up with advice from TV, magazines, and good worldly advice.

Living in step with God’s Spirit will become a Drano to clear out all the junk the world has clogged our minds with :o) Get ready to hear from God!

  1. I’ve never heard the analogy of the Holy Spirit compared to Drano before. Yet it fits beautifully. Thanks for your fresh perspective.
