Thanks for sharing this! I have thought a lot about joy this past year, and I love Kay’s definition. But I would take it one step further. Joy comes not just from knowing ultimately everything will be alright, but that God works it all for good. With this conviction comes an overwhelming excitement in the face of difficulty, one that definitely touches your emotions. It’s an excitement about what lies ahead and about all the wonderful things God will do through the difficult situations. Joy also encompasses the realization of just how much God loves us and how he demonstrates it through the hardships that He allows in our lives. It is this excitement about the future that enables us to endure the present. “…(Jesus) for the joy set before Him endured the cross…”
This is such an unnatural way of thinking! Which also leads me to say that this kind of joy is only possible by the power of the Holy Spirit at work in our lives as we set our hearts to trust Him and praise Him in all things.
